Salary:
This position is in pay schedule/range 7-03 with starting pay between $46,451 and $76,646 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Pay for current state employees will be based on the applicable pay transaction provisions of the current Compensation Plan. In addition, the State of WI offers a comprehensive benefits package. A six-month probationary period may be required.

The Office of the State Public Defender (SPD), , is looking for an independent, team player who will provide technical support to SPD staff operating under LAN/WAN platforms. This position is located in our Milwaukee Trial office; however it is a part of the Office of Information Technology in the SPD Administration office in Madison. Occasional travel will be required to any of our 39 office locations throughout the state.
Job Duties: This position functions as a technical support consultant for planning, designing, research/development, testing, installation, troubleshooting, and support of Workstations/Laptops/Servers/Local Area Network/Wide Area Network/Computer data systems. This position provides technical support to SPD customers operating under the LAN/WAN platform. The incumbent provides LAN/WAN administration functions and maintenance support for workstations, servers, and network applications. This position researches, tests, implements and supports system software in the Agency-s LAN/WAN environment to include Windows XP/Windows 7 workstations and laptops, Windows 2000/2003/2008R2 Servers, as well as cloud-based systems such as Google Apps for Government Suite including g-mail. Provide assistance and support to agency staff with the use of various video player technologies. The incumbent will be required to directly support end users via the agency helpdesk and contribute to user and peer training as well as research, recommend and implement new systems and technologies. The ability to lead projects and function effectively in a small team is critical.Click here for a copy of the position duties.
Special Notes: This position requires the possession of or ability to acquire a valid driver-s license for occasional travel to SPD offices throughout Wisconsin, which may include some overnights. The incumbent must to able to lift up to 60 pounds on occasion. A criminal background check will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and experience - providing user support in an enterprise environment in multiple locations, utilizing customer consultation techniques and communication skills; software and hardware support to include installation, support, troubleshooting and repair; LAN/WAN security, maintenance, management, and troubleshooting; implementing and managing security policies with respect to workstation configuration; installation, configuration, and maintenance of stand alone or virtual Windows 2000/2003/2008R2 servers in an enterprise production environment; installing, supporting and troubleshooting various video player technologies; implementing, utilizing and managing remote access; monitoring, administering and restoring backup and recover system tools; and using tools to automate network management and monitoring tasks.
