Psychiatrist- Program Manager

The Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is an academic tertiary care facility closely affiliated with the Medical College of Wisconsin. We are seeking a board certified/eligible psychiatrist with US Citizenship to work in our outpatient mental health clinic and work at least 20 hours per week in managing the outpatient staff with our multidisciplinary outpatient management team. Milwaukee is a city which offers low commute times and many different leisure activities. Few cities our size have the breadth of sporting events, concerts or festivals that we can offer. Mental Health outpatient care involves treating a wide range of patients with mental health issues in a setting with a strong multi-disciplinary orientation and collaborative approach to care. We staff a mental health urgent care clinic that is a walk in clinic and a portal for admission to our many treatment programs. There are opportunities to participate in the clinical training and education of medical students, residents and fellows in the clinic. The successful candidate should possess strong clinical and interpersonal skills. Call is in weekly coverage allotments and the applicant can expect to cover 2 or 3 weeks a year. In house rounding of the inpatient unit occurs during the week on call. Our Emergency Room is covered after hours by PhD's. Faculty appointment with the Medical College of Wisconsin is available, with appropriate credentials. Major duties and responsibilities include:
Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and post deployment combat Veterans, who are mentally ill and have psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders. Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education. Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care. The Psychiatrist will serve as a mental health program manager with responsibilities for managing staff, functioning as the outpatient medical director, coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care. Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions. May participate in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program, performs on call duties, and performs other directly related duties as assigned. Areas which the psychiatrist is assigned and has clinical privileges to practice may include depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse, and other psychiatric disorders in various clinical settings (outpatient, inpatient, ED). The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine. United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
