Health System Specialist-Credentialing & Privileging Specialist

The Medical Staff Office is responsible for the C&P process of VAMC clinical services providers including full-time, part-time, temporary, intermittent, contract, without compensation (WOC), fee basis and telehealth Licensed Independent Providers (LIPs), as defined in the VAMC Medical Staff Bylaws, and other credentialed staff. Duties:
- Ensures accurate provider data is entered into and maintained in the VetPro computer program. - Manages provider applications (initial and renewals) for LIPs and dependent providers within the VAMC. - Provides guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation for establishing privileges for LIPs. Coordinates with clinical services on findings of clinical care competency. - Prepares agendas for Professional Standards Board, ensures those involved are notified of expectations, and ensures appropriate paperwork is accomplished completely and accurately prepared for committee action. - Manages the work involving the tracking of data from a variety of sources; established protocols for incoming data; organizes computerized data sets; and retrieves computerized data. - Serves as technical advisor to the PSB and Medical Executive Committee. - Researches and reviews related literature and regulations to keep informed of current requirements in the credentialing and privileging arena as they affect health care providers within the VAMC. - Monitors and ensures suspense's are met in the time sensitive actions for privileges modification, biennial renewals, temporary limitations or suspensions, and any other time-limited privileging action. - Holds the credit card and is responsible for maintaining records, reconciling monthly charge statements and verifying legitimacy of requests for National Practitioner Data Bank and other purchases. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Undergraduate and Graduate Education:
Major study -- hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5):
Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided knowledge of the following:
-Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems; -Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and -Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement. Specialized Experience GS-9:
You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-7) in federal service performing work closely related to the work of this job. Specialized experience is experience which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Health System Specialist. Specialized Experience for this position consists of:
Skill to communicate orally technical information to a diverse group of individuals with varying levels of understanding; Knowledge of the contacts required for verification of information in health care provider; Knowledge of medical terminology, medical specialties and core privileges and procedures to assure competence/appropriateness of credentials and privileging requested; Skill to communicate in writing to prepare emails, letters, reports and committee minutes; Skill in using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval and analysis; Skill to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines. Skill to analyze applications, documents, files and other material pertaining to this area; Skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and toward the planning and accomplishment of a variety of routine and complex work assignments, such as advising leadership on documentation requirements for provider profiling and competence; Comprehensive knowledge of VetPro policies, including but not limited to, VetPro Data Integrity, Facility level access control, mandatory annual VetPro security and confidentiality training, and mandatory annual privacy act training. OR, Education:
possess 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Master's or equivalent degree or LL.B or J.D., if related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position?
