Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Assessment of Institutional Research (AIR), this position performs a variety of duties related to the preparation, maintenance, and reporting of UWM data, primarily revolving around academic issues, in support of assessment, benchmarking, and strategic planning. This position is responsible for preparing analytical information needed for decision making, evaluating policy effectiveness, or comparing educational and academic policy alternatives; and assisting the campus community and external constituents who wish to use institutional data to address academic issues. Duties include preparing ad-hoc analyses as requested by audiences at UWM and UW System; designing and implementing special statistical studies as requested; extracting data from complex repositories to create simplified databases for general use; preparing standardized reports that summarize commonly requested data; and assisting others in the development of institutional data resources such as expansions and modifications to the data warehouse and query library. In addition, the incumbent will use the University's data resources to assemble, tabulate, and report information for use by senior university leadership; develop complex student, faculty, payroll, budget, and expenditure databases for analytical use by other AIR staff; and create specialized reports that provide trend information to be used by senior leadership to prepare for accreditation and other external reviews as well as to monitor progress on institutional goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Qualified candidates will have experience using quantitative data to support policy decisions, and skill in the use of quantitative software programs including spreadsheets, relational databases, and query tools (e.g., Microsoft Access, SAS, BrioQuery, etc.). Also, qualified candidates will have the ability to work with complex databases, and to work with the data derived from centralized systems. This position requires the incumbent to be highly productive in a collaborative team environment as well as independently. The following abilities are critical to success in this position: the ability to complete projects with rapidly changing and ambiguous priorities; the ability to seek creative and innovative solutions to consistent challenges; and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies. In addition, this position requires superb organization skills and attention to detail as well as excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Experience with PeopleSoft is preferred.
