Job Description:
In collaboration with faculty and staff, the University Grants and Contracts Specialist-Senior position is primarily responsible for administering and facilitating complex grant preparation, submission, and compliance. Specific duties include providing guidance and assistance in proposal and budget preparation; interpreting funding agency regulations and requirements; reviewing proposals for compliance with Federal, State, UW-System, and UWM policies, regulations, and procedures; and advising and assisting departments with process and compliance issues related to funding agency regulations and standards. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing adherence to University administrative, fiscal, and accounting policies and procedures related to grant proposals; analyzing and reviewing grant budgets; advising and assisting researchers in grant budgeting and/or cost-sharing requirements; facilitating and monitoring documentation requirements and the electronic transmittal process; and obtaining appropriate approvals and signatures for award terms, conditions, and other award acceptances. Furthermore, this position is responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and processing contract and grant acceptance and revisions with a focus on publication restrictions, confidentiality clauses, intellectual property rights, and liability/insurance clauses. This position will administer the most complex grant and contract programs received by the University, which include a variety of funding agencies and multifaceted grant program guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Highly qualified candidates will possess knowledge of relevant State, Federal, and Non-Federal fiscal and administrative rules, regulations, and procedures (i.e., Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars A-21, A-133, and A-110); knowledge of office related computer applications that support research administration; knowledge of policies and procedures related to extramural support; and knowledge of extramural support budgeting and electronic submission techniques. Candidates will possess effective, professional written and oral communication skills.
